Economic Forecast Luncheon

February 2, 2009

Times: 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Location:  Yarrow Hotel

Park City Chamber/Bureau's 2009 Annual Economic Forecast Luncheon will feature Keynote Speaker Rich Karlgaard, Publisher of Forbes Magazine.
Nothing to Fear?: Keeping a Perspective in the Face of An Economic Crisis
Fear is off the charts. People are anticipating the worst. We need to remind ourselves, though, that economic slumps--though wrenching and disillusioning for millions--rarely become national tragedies. Two things are certain: President Obama and congressional leaders will face a popular outcry for sweeping economic changes the country has not seen in decades. These changes will have real consequences for business and investment. Two, the galloping rates of creative destruction and business volatility, observed before the 2008 crash, will continue apace. New winners will emerge. Old business models will consigned to history's dustbin.

Karlgaard, Publisher of Forbes magazine, helps calm our fears by discussing:
- How the Obama Administration and Democratic majorities in the House and Senate will preside over the  economy.

-
What economic, trade and investment policies we can expect to see?
-
The impact on U.S. stocks, bonds and real estate?
-
How major industries will be affected by the Obama Administration?
-
Which 12 types of innovation will still win the day?

The events that followed the crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 in 1974 are, by now, legendary. The survivors, members of a rugby team left to fend for themselves in the rugged high peaks of the Andes Mountains, ultimately resorted to cannibalism for the sake of survival. As a result, 16 men (of the initial 45) managed to stay alive on a frozen glacier for an incredible ten weeks. The story prompted a bestselling nonfiction book, a 1993 dramatic feature film, and this fascinating documentary which recounts the harrowing story via firsthand accounts with those involved.
